FAQS FOR BUYING A SOLAR ENERGY

ANP Solar provides a comprehensive solar solution for your energy needs either it’s for your home or your business. Please contact us for a detailed discussion about our solar solution.

As you are aware, the central government and the Gujarat state government provide a range of subsidies to homeowners across the state who choose to install home solar systems on their rooftops.

You should certainly consider installing a home solar PV system and avail of the incentives provided by both the central and the state governments.

The subsidies are offered by the central government under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission, which plans to install 1 Lakh MW of solar power capacity in the country by 2022.

Gujarat is India’s #1 state when it comes to solar power and will play a major role in the national mission to make India self-sufficient in clean energies such as solar power. The Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) offers excellent subsidies to homeowners to incentivize them to install solar panels.

So what sort of subsidy can you expect to get? The average cost of a solar PV system installation of 1 KW is Rs. 69,000. Most homes and apartments in Gujarat install solar panels of this size and capacity.

Of this amount, you can get a subsidy of Rs. 20,700 from the central government under the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission – for setting up a rooftop solar panel of 1KW in capacity.

In addition to that, you can get a subsidy of Rs. 10,000 from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency.

Just remember – the maximum subsidy a single beneficiary can get should not exceed Rs. 20,000.

Clearly, there are major incentives on offer for individuals who choose to get a solar system installed on their homes. Also, the subsidies from GEDA are on a first come first serve basis. The target for this has been fixed at the first 100,000 consumers. That’s why it is important that you should sign up fast, otherwise you risk missing out on the subsidy.

ANP Solar has been installing home solar PV systems in all cities, towns and villages of Gujarat for the last 10 years. We handle everything related to the installation of the solar PV system – this means we not only handle the technical aspect of the installation, we also help our customers with the paperwork related to the subsidy application.

We take care of all the details so that you are spared of all the complexity related to the process. Just remember that these subsidies may not last for too long, which is why you should install the solar system as soon as possible.

As the government gets closer to its goals on solar power generation, and as tens of thousands of homeowners in Gujarat sign up, the subsidy will be gradually withdrawn. So take advantage of the incentives while they are still on offer and contact us at ANP Solar to get a solar panel installed.

Can solar power transform India – at ANP Solar, we certainly think so.  We are a leading installer of home solar systems such as solar panels and inverters in Gujarat and India, and we have been a part of the nation’s tryst with solar power.

The current electricity situation in India is deplorable. There is a shortage of coal in many states in the country, because of which power cuts stretch to four to eight hours a day, even in cities. In villages, the situation is worse. Rising electricity costs have also been a major concern.

The Indian government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a major advocate of clean renewable energies such as solar energy. The government is well aware of the challenges before it – a quarter of India’s population or 300 million people have no access to electricity.

India has one of the lowest per capita energy consumption in the world. There are frequent disruptions in power generation and distribution. With a fast rising population, the demand for electricity is expected to double by 2020.

The situation is particularly acute in rural India, where power cuts are all too common. Even in Gujarat, which is India’s most power surplus state, there are many villages that suffer from frequent power cuts.

One answer to this serious problem is solar power. You will come across many huts in villages in Gujarat belonging to the poorest of families, which have a 40 watt solar panel outside, attached to a tree or a pole – which is enough power to run 3 lights at night, so that the children can study.

At ANP Solar, we work closely in rural areas in Gujarat and the rest of India. We have been at the forefront of the efforts to install solar PV systems on rooftops of homes in villages.

We have witnessed the enormous changed brought by the solar panels, inverters and other home solar systems installed by us to the people of Gujarat and India, and this is a great source of pride for us.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the historic COP21 climate conference in Paris last year, “The world must turn to (the) sun to power our future. As the developing world lifts billions of people into prosperity, our hope for a sustainable planet rests on a bold, global initiative.”

This is something we at ANP Solar truly believe in. Join us and be a part of the change.

The term renewable source of energy refers to a sustainable energy source that does not get depleted over time. This is a stark opposite of fossil fuels or non-renewable sources of energy, which are getting fast depleted.

While non-renewable sources of energy are limited, renewable sources are abundant. There is no chance of us ever running out of solar power and wind power, for example. Here’s a look at some of the most popular renewable sources of energy used by the general public and businesses in Gujarat and India.

 Solar Energy

Solar energy is the most abundant source of energy in the world. It is especially available in plenty in Gujarat, where the sun beats down relentlessly all the time. Solar energy is the most important type of alternative source of power, which is growing at a rate of 50% every year.

Go to any village or town in Gujarat, you will be greeted by the sight of solar PV systems on the rooftops of homes, buildings, schools, shops and offices. Solar energy can be used to generate power. It can also be used for cooking, water heating, lighting, running water pumps and so many other purposes.

ANP Solar installs home solar systems across the state of Gujarat and the rest of India. We have been a part of the mammoth effort to transform Gujarat through solar power.

 Wind Energy

Wind Energy is another popular renewable source of energy which is abundant in Gujarat. Here’s how it works: Wind power is harnessed wind power to rotate large turbine blades. This puts large generators into action, which generate electrical current, which is then distributed to homes and businesses. India can potentially generate 45,000 MW of power from wind energy.

 Hydropower

India has been generating electricity from hydropower since the early 20th century. This is a renewable source of energy, which is obtained from the rapid movement of water in rivers, oceans and waterfalls. India can potentially generate 1.5 lakh MW of electricity from hydropower, but currently only 20% of the capacity is utilized.

Biomass

Biomass is a form of energy that is obtained from organic materials. It is a renewable source of energy and found in abundance in rural areas of Gujarat and the rest of India. It is produced from animal manure, food waste, agricultural crops and human sewage.

What Is Solar Water Heater?

A solar water heater is a system that makes use of solar energy to heat water. This system is installed on a terrace, balcony or on an open space where it can get direct sunlight and maximum solar energy.

This system is not connected to any electrical supply and does not come with an on-off switch. It utilizes sunlight throughout the day for heating the water and stores the water in a storage tank. The water from the storage tank can be used for a number of different applications.

Factors to Consider When Installing Solar Hot Water System

ANP Solar installs solar hot water system in homes across Gujarat. These systems provide the hot water you need for everyday use. This saves you a lot on your electricity bills, as you won’t need to use the electricity obtained from the grid to heat water for bathing or cooking and other purposes.

In fact, 25% of your electricity bill is used for heating water only – so you can imagine the amount of money you are going to save over the years once you install a solar hot water system.

Also, gas water heaters are energy inefficient. With gas prices shooting up all the time, it helps to have a solar hot water system in the house. You can save a lot on your gas bill as well by having a solar hot water system installed by ANP Solar.

Another reason to install these systems is that they don’t require any maintenance of any sort. ANP Solar provides you with 10 year workmanship warranty, so even if any of the parts of the system was to malfunction, we will have it replaced or repaired at no extra cost.

Why Solar PV Systems Are More Popular than Solar Hot Water Systems in Gujarat?

ANP Solar installs both solar PV systems and solar hot water systems. We have found that solar PV systems are more popular these days in Gujarat than solar hot water systems. That’s because the cost of photovoltaic cells are dropping every year and the solar PV panels are also getting cheaper at the same time.

Also, while solar hot water systems can only be used to heat water, solar PV systems can be used to heat water as well as to run all appliances in the house such as lighting, air conditioner, fans, electric heaters, etc. That’s why we recommend solar PV systems over solar hot water system.

Does the Gujarat Government Offer Subsidy for Solar Hot Water systems?

Yes, subsidy is offered by the Gujarat Energy Development Agency for solar hot water systems. Contact us to know more.

Yes, ANP Solar provides maintenance for all solar PV systems, including LED solar street lights installed by us. The maintenance will be done in accordance with the schedule as recommended by the manufacturer. This schedule will be made available to you as soon as we install the system.  But generally, solar PV systems are maintenance free and exhibit no wear and tear as they have no moving parts.

Why Solar LED Street Lights With Batteries Are Such Popular Options Right Now?

Solar LED street lights are considered to be far more efficient than the HID lamps that are generally used. HID lamps consume a lot of power from the grid and they require regular maintenance.

A better choice would be to install energy efficient Solar LED lights which provide better lighting and are based on solar energy, which is a renewable source of energy available in abundance, especially in a state like Gujarat.  Also, solar LED street lights are good for the environment as they are based on a clean energy and do not leave any carbon footprint.

ANP Solar is one of the leading solar companies in Gujarat and we install all types of home solar systems. We also install solar pumps. Solar pumps are very popular, especially in rural areas of Gujarat, where the main occupation is agriculture.

How Do Solar Pumps Work?

A solar pump consists of a mini-power house at its core and an array of calibrated and matching solar modules. Solar pumps are compatible with all types of electric water pumps and can replace them easily. They are used in a number of applications in agriculture, irrigation and other household applications.

A solar pumping system is classified based on the total solar array size needed to run an attached pump. This means a solar water pump of 1000 Wp (Watt Peak) can draw and pump as many as 40,000 liters of water each day from a water source that is up to 10 meters deep.

Why Are Solar Pumps So Popular In Many Rural Areas Of Gujarat?

Solar pumps are widely use in villages in Gujarat where the main occupation is still farming. These pumps can help farmers save a lot of money on irrigation costs. How much?

An average sized solar water pump is capable of irrigating two acres of land, and can potentially save you up to Rs. 45,000 year compared to diesel operated water pumps. Remember – diesel is a fast depleting non-renewable fuel and it gets more expensive every year.

Also, diesel adds to pollution and is very unsafe for the environment. People of Gujarat are very conscious about the environment these days and are looking for different ways to prevent pollution.

Is There Any Government Subsidy On Solar Pump By Gujarat Government Or Indian Government?

The Government of Gujarat offers a range of subsidies to farmers in Gujarat for using solar pumps. The state government wants to provide incentives to farmers for connecting their solar pumps to the electric grid so that any excess solar power produced by them can be drawn back into the grid.

So far, the state government has distributed tens of thousands of solar pumps to farmers in rural Gujarat. The government also plans to provide solar water pumps to farms that are not connected to the grid.

Farmers in Gujarat can get a subsidy of 75% to 80% on the cost of the solar water pump from the government. This means farmers only have to pay 20% to 25% of the cost of the pump. This makes installing a solar pump a really great idea for them.

Should I Install Solar Pump Or Solar PV System? What Is Difference Between Both?

ANP Solar installs both solar pumps and solar PV systems. Solar PV systems can be used to run all appliances in the house such as lighting, fan, refrigerator, electric heaters and also to run the water pump. Solar pumps are used specifically to pump water for irrigation purposes. ANP Solar installs all types of solar power solutions. Contact us to know more.

The history of solar power in Gujarat is an incredible one. ANP Solar has been providing home solar system installations to the people of Gujarat for almost a decade now, so we have been witness to how solar power in Gujarat has grown remarkably over the years.

Gujarat was the first state in India to launch its own solar policy in 2009. The state launched the Gujarat Solar Power Policy a year before the central government came out with one. This goes to show the amount of foresight shown by the state, and especially by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri. Narendra Modi.

Shri. Modi, who is today the Prime Minister of India, knew very early on that the present situation in the power sector was untenable. Coal and diesel are non-renewable resources that are fast depleting, which is why there was an urgent need for solar power, wind power and other renewable sources of energy. Also, Shri. Modi knew that Gujarat receives a lot of sunlight and has vast open spaces, which makes it an ideal location for building solar parks.

The first significant step taken in this direction was to launch India’s first solar plant at Charanaka in Patan district in North Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat invited 16 companies to participate in the solar park, for projects that contributed a total of 176 MW of power.

The capacity of the power plant was increased to 500 MW soon. 30,000 sq. meters of land per MW was allotted to Solar Thermal projects and 20,000 sq. meters per MW of land was allotted to PV projects.

The solar power plant was funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The Charanaka solar park was larger than the Golmud Solar Park of China in terms of photovoltaic solar capacity.

The Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) were prominently involved in the effort to make Gujarat self-sufficient in solar power. A canal-top 1 MW solar project was started on the Narmada, which has been hailed as the world’s first canal-top solar park. This was followed by a solar power plant at Chandrasan village near Mehsana, capable of generating 1.6 million units of power every year. Gujarat now produces 66% of India’s solar power.

The most important thing that the Gujarat government did was to provide homeowners in Gujarat a number of subsidies and financial incentives to install solar PV systems on their rooftops. They also encouraged private participation in solar power, ensuring that private companies such as ANP Solar and many others played a major role in transforming the power situation in the state of Gujarat.

History of solar power in India has been a relatively recent one. India was never known to be serious about utilizing the full capacity of solar power and has always been over dependent on highly polluting conventional sources of energy such as coal.

But today, there has been a remarkable transformation in India’s fortunes. India has made great progress at moving away from coal and towards renewable sources of energy such as Solar Power. This has been made possible by encouraging government policies and ambitious goal-setting by the state electricity boards and private power companies.

How solar power has grown in India is remarkable. The nation has added 9 GW of solar power in the last two years alone and now has a capacity of 12 GW. This is equivalent to 4.5 times the power produced by the Hoover Dam in the United States, which is the biggest dam in the world. Another 37 GW will be added in another 3 years. It is projected that coal will play a less dominant role in India’s power system by 2040 with many coal mines being shut down.

What are the factors driving the growth of solar power in India?

India has demand side growth factors and supply side growth factors that are driving the demand for solar power in the country. The nation suffers from a serious energy shortage with electricity consumption projected to increase to 1900 kWh by 2032 from the present level of 660 kWh. There is currently a gap of 12% between the energy required and the energy produced, and this gap is expected to be filled up by the enormous investment in solar energy.

Also, India is overly dependent on non-renewable natural resources such as coal and diesel for power, which are depleting at a rapid rate. Solar power is expected to make up for the shortfall when that happens.

How Solar Power has developed in India over the Years?

The Rural Electrification Program of 2006 was the first policy statement on solar power introduced by the Indian Government. It gave guidelines for the implementation of off-grid solar capacity in the country.

This was followed by a series of solar power projects in the Thar Desert, which is estimated to generate 700 GW to 2,100 GW of power.

The Diken solar park in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh was inaugurated by Shri. Narendra Modi on March 31st, 2014, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. That was India’s biggest solar plant.

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) was another major project launched by the Indian government, and is projected to add a solar power capacity of 20,000 MW by 2022.

The state of Gujarat has been at the forefront of solar power generation in India, and at ANP Solar, a leading installer of home solar systems such as solar panels and inverters in India and Gujarat, we are glad to be a part of it.

The Indian government has made solar power the cornerstone of its energy policy. In Gujarat, almost every home has a solar PV system installed on the rooftops. ANP Solar is a leading installer of home solar systems in India and in Gujarat, so this is something we have been a part of.

But have you wondered how innovations in solar panels developed over time and spread across the world? The history of solar power in the world actually began way back in the 3rd century BC, when the great Greek scientist Archimedes destroyed Roman ships by focusing concentrated beams of sun rays at them using brass shields. This made the Roman ships burst into flames and Greece was saved!

But we are more interested in the recent history of solar power. It was in 1876 when a scientist by the name of William Grylls Adams found out that when selenium was exposed to light, electricity was created.

This was an important discovery because that was the first time that it was proven that light could be converted into electricity without the application of heat or mechanical power. That was the first time a photovoltaic cell was used.

The first silicon solar cell was invented in 1953 by Calvin Fuller, Gerald Pearson, and Daryl Chapin. This cell produced just enough electricity to run small electrical devices. The New York Times hailed the invention, calling it “the beginning of a new era”.

The first solar cells were commercially produced in 1956. But they were too expensive and beyond the means of most people, with a 1 watt solar cell costing as much as $300. These cells were used to power toys and radios.

The innovations in solar cells continued through the 1950s and 1960s at NASA. Solar power was critical to the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union. The first solar panel was used in satellites such as Explorer VI and VII and Telstar 1.

The costs were still too high, and it was only in the late 1970s, when Dr. Elliot Berman designed an affordable solar cell that slashed the prices by 80% that solar panels became commercially viable.

In 1972, the Institute of Energy Conversion was established for further research into photovoltaic cells, and in 1973 the first Solar PV-powered house called as “Solar One”, was built.

It was in the 1980s and 1990s that solar PV systems hit the mainstream, and an increasing number of houses and buildings were powered by solar energy. A solar powered airplane, Icare, flew over Germany in 1996.

By now, home solar systems on rooftops are a common sight in India and Gujarat. With mounting electricity costs, solar PV systems are more attractive than ever before. Also, since solar energy is environmentally friendly, it is considered by many to be the energy resource of the future.

As you are aware, electricity prices have increased in Gujarat and across India over the last 25 years. If you have an air conditioner at home, or even if you have an air cooler or fans switched on for much of the day, you can well imagine the sort of electricity bills you’re going to get.

But this cannot be helped in a state like Gujarat, where temperatures are always in the high 40s, especially during the summer months. You must have an air conditioner or air cooler on all the time; otherwise it can get highly discomforting for you and the other members of your family.

Small children, in particular, can find the heat during the summer oppressive, which is why parents have no choice but to invest heavily in air conditioners despite the high electricity bills.

Is there a way out? Yes – you can save on your electricity bill by installing a solar PV system on the rooftop of your house. According to a report in The Times of India, many colleges in Gujarat have been installing solar panels on their roofs to save money on the electricity bill.

Father Robert Arockiasamy, principal of St. Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad says that his college has been able to bring their electricity bill down from Rs. 1.92 lakhs/month to Rs. 10,000/month by switching to solar PV systems.

Dr. J.M. Vyas, director general of the Gujarat Forensic Science University says that his institution has been able to bring down their electricity bills by 70% by installing solar panels on the university campus.

This is just to give you an idea of how much savings you could possibly achieve by installing solar panels on the rooftop or balcony of your home or apartment.

You are always welcome to contact us at ANP Solar so that we can arrange for one of our engineers to carry out an inspection of your house.

Our engineers will study your electricity bills for the last few months, the power backups you have got, the number of and the type of equipment and appliances you have to get an idea of the approximate usage per room of your house.

Then they will give you an accurate measure of how much you can save on your electricity bill by installing an ANP Solar Home Solar System.

The cost of the solar installation can vary from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 6 lakh depending on your requirements and the size of your residence. But it is something that will pay off in the long term because you will be able to save thousands of rupees in your electricity bills every year.

To understand the need for solar power and how it helps the environment, one has to look into the natural phenomenon of greenhouse effect closely.

The greenhouse effect has made major changes to the climate in India and Gujarat over the last 10 years. Global warming, which is the most talked about issue in the world, is directly linked to the greenhouse effect.

You may have noticed how summers seem to have become longer in India and especially in Gujarat, and the days have become so much hotter. Temperatures that are in the range of 45 degree Celsius and above are not unheard of in Gujarat.

That’s largely because of the greenhouse effect – the atmosphere traps heat instead of allowing it to escape into space, which only serves to increase the temperature. While the greenhouse effect is a part of nature, the increasing use of fossil fuels and the resulting higher concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere have made the phenomenon stronger than ever. That is why it gets so hot during the summer in Ahmedabad and other cities in Gujarat.

What can you do about it?

Could Solar Power help reverse global warming? How does solar power help the environment?

When you make the switch to solar energy and have a solar PV system installed on your rooftop by us at ANP Solar, a leading installer of home solar systems in Gujarat and India, you are already doing your bit for the environment.

Solar power can help reduce air pollution as it is a clean energy. It does not let out harmful gases such as carbon dioxide and methane like coal and diesel fired power plants do. The use of solar power in the United States, for example, brought down the emission of CO2 by 16.8 million metric tons last year.

Solar panels that are attached on the rooftop of your house are comprised of solar photovoltaic cells, which means, they don’t need water to generate electricity. This helps conserve water, which is so important in a dry state like Gujarat where water is such a precious commodity.

Solar energy is renewable. The sun is the most abundant source of energy in the world, producing an incredible 173,000 terawatts of solar energy each second. Fossil fuels such as coal and diesel are non-renewable and depleting fast. So switching to solar power is not only good for the environment, it is absolutely essential to preserve our way of life.

ANP Solar handles everything related to the installation of your home solar system and we supply all equipment including the battery storage system. We make sure to provide you with only the best battery types that are available on the market, from top rated and highly reputable brands.

So how does battery storage for solar PV systems work? To understand how a solar battery works, you will need to know the working of a solar PV system first.

How does a solar PV system work?

A typical solar PV system consists of solar panels, an inverter, mounting equipment for fixing the panels onto the roof and a monitoring system that checks how much electricity is produced.

The solar panel collects energy from the sun and converts it into electricity. This is passed through the inverter, and then converted into a form that you can use for powering your home.

Most of the solar PV systems are connected to the electricity grid. So when the solar panels produce more energy than what you require, the excess electricity is sent back to the power grid.

When the solar panels don’t produce as much energy as your home requires, more electricity is drawn from the power grid. You will get credits for all the energy that you are able to send back to the grid, which you can use to save money on your electricity bill.

How do solar batteries work?

Solar batteries convert the AC energy produced by the solar panels and store them as DC power. This is used to power your appliances later when there is a power shutdown.

All solar batteries have their own inverters, and they allow for an integrated energy conversion. The higher the capacity of the solar battery, bigger is the solar system that it has the capacity to serve.

Installing a solar battery as a part of the solar PV system allows you to store the excess electricity generated by the solar panels in your house instead of sending it back to the power grid.

This way, when the solar panels are not producing enough electricity, you can then draw the energy stored in the battery for use, such as during night time or during the rainy season when the sky is clouded.

So you will send electricity back to the power grid only when your battery is fully charged. This is a very efficient system and ensures that you will have back-up power even when there is a power outage in your neighborhood.

ANP Solar installs solar PV systems on homes, offices, buildings, schools, universities and more across Gujarat and India. You must be wondering how solar PV systems work. Here are the basics.

The solar cell is the basic building block of solar photovoltaic technology. You are probably familiar with a PV solar cell – it is commonly used in calculators. These solar PV cells are wired together to form a module called as a PV Solar Panel.

The solar panel collects solar energy in the form of sunlight and then converts it into direct current (DC) electricity. The DC power is converted into alternating power or AC power by an inverter, which is then used to run lights, fans, ACs, and various appliances, devices and gadgets in your home.

There is a computerized controller, which regulates the entire solar PV system and guarantees peak performance at all times. A standard home solar system as installed by ANP Solar is perfectly safe and is designed in a way to stop working the moment there is a power interruption.

ANP Solar provides you with solar panels, inverters, cables, mounting kit and the rest of the equipment that make up a comprehensive home solar system. We provide you with products of the highest quality with extensive warranties on all inverters and solar panels.

We install only the most efficient solar panels and inverters for our customers with an assurance of the highest possible quality for years, if not decades of use. Energy retailers and distributors in different cities of Gujarat have been providing extensive support to homeowners for installation of solar panels.

Torrent Power is the biggest private power company that operates in big cities in Gujarat such as Ahmedabad, Baroda, Valsad, Mehsana and Surat. They have been supporting homeowners who choose to get solar PV systems installed on their network.

The Gujarat State Electricity Board also offers incentives to homeowners for home solar system installations. The Government of Gujarat has been a major promoter of solar energy, and this goes back to the time Shri. Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of the state. Even today, the government support for solar panel installations remains very strong in Gujarat.

The Gujarat State Government has invited applications for its residential rooftop solar plant scheme. Already, this scheme has received tens of thousands of applicants. The purpose of the scheme is to encourage more people to opt for solar energy. All participants will be given a fixed amount against the power generated through the solar panels on their rooftops.

The average cost of installing a rooftop solar power plant of 1KW is around Rs. 69,000. Of this, Rs. 20,700 will be provided by the Central government under the scheme to the homeowner for setting up a rooftop solar panel plant of 1KW capacity. The state government of Gujarat has announced an enhanced assistance of Rs. 10,000 per KW, with the maximum subsidy offered to a beneficiary amounting to Rs. 20,000.

The National Solar Mission is a serious initiative undertaken by the central government under which a target of generating 100,000 MW of grid connected solar power by 2022 has been set. Gujarat has been given a target of generating 8,024 MW of power of out of this, including 3,200 MW of grid connected power.

In Gujarat, already a capacity of 1,300 MW of solar power has been installed through captive and commercial solar power plants. But the rooftop power generated by home solar systems installed on homes across the state only accounts for 30 MW out of this.

State government-controlled energy distributers such as Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) have been trying their best to further incentivize homeowners across Gujarat to participate in solar power generation.

The state government has also invited contributions from private players in the solar industry such as ANP Solar to speed up the transformation of Gujarat into a solar power surplus state.

Why You Should Choose SolaX Inverter?

At ANP Solar, our first preference is to include SolaX inverters in our home solar system installations. SolaX is a Chinese inverter brand with an Australian office in Melbourne which provides high quality at a very affordable price.

This inverter gives you service of at least 100,000 hours, which is impressive. This means SolaX inverter can last for at least 11 years.

SolaX makes standard inverters, hybrid or multimode inverters, single phase inverters and 3 phase inverters. These products come with a 5-year warranty which is the industry standard. The noise emission of these inverters is less than 25 dB, which means they are reasonably quiet during their operation. Highly recommended!

India’s power situation is a mess. Recently, there were a series of power blackouts in Maharashtra and Rajasthan because of the shortage of coal. Everyone knows that coal is a fast depleting resource, and coal-based power plants are already stressed beyond capacity.

India’s power generation was short by 5.8% relative to the demand last year. The power system in India is divided into five regional grids, all of which are run by the Power Grid. There is tremendous pressure on the central government to ensure that all states get the amount of electricity they need to fulfill the demands of their people. But this is easier said than done.

India’s power infrastructure is still underdeveloped and the country has been unable to meet its large population’s energy needs to their satisfaction. Even today, 77 million households in India use kerosene for lighting. The problem is especially serious in rural areas where 44% of the homes still lack access to electricity.

The Indian government has undertaken a pledge to electrify all villages in the country and provide power to every home by the end of 2018. That is an ambitious target indeed. But the central government, state governments and the municipalities realize that meeting the energy demands of such a vast nation is not possible with just conventional sources or non-renewable sources of energy such as coal and gas.

There is an urgent need for India to develop sufficient capacity in renewable energy. So far India gets 67 percent of its energy needs from thermal sources such as coal and gas, 12 percent from renewable, 2 percent from nuclear power and 19 percent from hydropower. There is now a real need to develop capacity in solar power generation. This is something the government is well aware of.

The government in India at every level, such as central, state and municipality, offers incentives to homeowners to install solar PV systems on their rooftops. Solar panels and inverters are heavily subsidized and participation of private players is encouraged.

Private companies such as ANP Solar, which installs home solar systems across Gujarat and India have benefited from the government’s commitment to the development of solar energy in India as a way to solve the electricity crisis in the country.

Whether the efforts taken by the government bear fruit or not, only time will tell. But so far, steps have been taken in the right direction. India now has a solar power capacity of 12 GW, and this is expected to rise to 37 GW by 2020.

In a country like India, which grapples with a serious shortage of power, Gujarat has been a shining light. Gujarat is one of India’s few surplus power states, where even the villages are generally free from the problem of power cuts.

How did Gujarat manage to do it? At ANP Solar, a leading provider of home solar system installation services in Gujarat and India, we have no hesitation in crediting one man with this massive transformation – our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

When Shri. Modi first became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002, the power sector in the state was in a critical situation. The Gujarat Electricity Board was struggling badly to provide power to the people of the state.  Shri. Modi made making Gujarat power surplus his most important goal and formulated a new energy policy for the state.

The Gujarat government, under his leadership first went about tackling the problem of power theft on a war footing. Once the leakage of power was stopped, the next step was to increase the power generation. A major reform in the electrical sector called as Jyotigram Yojna was launched.

Jyotigram Yojna aimed to address the serious deficiency in power in Gujarati villages and high density areas in cities and towns. All villages in the state were electrified and the power deficiency was brought down significantly. The Jyotigram Yojna is critical for the socioeconomic development of rural areas in Gujarat. Countless households in villages have been transformed because of it.

Another significant measure taken by the Gujarat government was the focus on Solar Power or Urja Shakti. The Gujarat government has made an unrelenting effort to increase renewable energy production through massive investment in solar energy and wind energy.

The Gujarat Solar Park at Charanka, a village in Northern Gujarat, is the biggest of its kind in Asia. The government has also encouraged ordinary villagers and people living in cities and towns to benefit from solar power by providing a range of subsidies and incentives for them to install solar PV systems on their rooftops.

Gujarat now produces 66% of India’s solar power. There is no sight more common in the state than that of a solar panel on the rooftops of homes, offices and buildings. Almost every household in Gujarat has installed a solar PV system or wants to install one.

ANP Solar is one company that has been a part of the solar revolution in Gujarat from the very start, and our commitment to make Gujarat self-sufficient in solar energy remains as strong as ever.

  • ANP Solar is a highly reputable provider of home solar system installation services across Gujarat and India. We have been actively involved in the solar industry for over 10 years now.

We are often asked by our customers about the optimal size and cost of a solar panel and what factors should one consider when buying a solar PV system. We have attempted to clear some of the doubts or misapprehensions you may have regarding your solar PV system here. Read on!

There are essentially 5 factors to consider when investing in a solar PV system.

Factor #1: Your Requirement – What is the nature of your requirement and what do you need the solar PV system for? Do you need it for residential use or for commercial purpose? Do you need to install the solar system only for lighting, or do you want to run your air conditioners on solar as well?

Factor #2: Efficiency– The next thing to consider is the efficiency of the solar panel. Efficiency refers to the rate at which the solar panel converts solar energy into power.  Higher efficiency means the panels generate more power from a lower area of panel installation. You should aim for an efficiency of 20%, but you will get something between 14% and 18% with most solar panels.

Factor #3: Power Rating – Power output refers to the DC current produced by the solar panels. Panels with higher power rating generate more power output. The ideal range for this is between 200W and 350W.

Factor #4: Brand Name – When choosing solar PV systems, you should pay attention to the credibility of the manufacturer. You should choose solar panels and solar inverters made by the best brands only, those that have a solid record behind them. This should be based on their history, experience and reviews from other users. Another important thing to consider is the warranty. When it comes to solar panels, a warranty of 25 years is the industry standard. Manufacturers of solar inverters generally offer a warranty of 5 years on their products.

Factor #5: Cost – Clearly the cost of the solar PV system is the factor that most people consider. You should buy solar PV systems made by top rated brands that offer the maximum efficiency and power rating at a reasonable price. The cost should be calculated on the basis of per watt cost of the solar panel.

You may have heard about hybrid solar systems – they are power systems that have more than one type of generator. Hybrid power systems are of different types.

Hybrid solar power systems are based on solar PV panels used in conjunction with a diesel generator. The diesel generator is utilized as gap filler between the load that is available presently and actual power which is generated by solar PV system.

When the solar energy fluctuates, and diesel generators start working, which ensures that there is no drop in the power supply. Adding battery storage to the solar hybrid is another option that ensures a steady supply of power.

Hybrid power systems are used in larger applications to provide power to villages or in residential systems that already have an existing generator. These systems are used in applications where the availability requirement is close to 100%.

Why are hybrid solar systems used?

Solar energy, wind energy, biomass and other renewable sources of energy have many advantages, but they are not perfect. They have certain drawbacks.

Solar panels, for example, do not operate at night and don’t work to their full capacity on cloudy days. Similarly, wind turbines don’t operate in areas that have low wind speeds. Biomass power plants malfunction at low temperatures.

Hybrid solar power systems are those that combine the best features of all three power generating systems – solar, wind and biomass, so that the drawbacks of each are effectively cancelled.  These power systems are generally used in remote areas that are off grid.

Hybrid solar systems are particularly useful in some parts of India, where solar power is limited especially on rainy days. Here the temperatures are high, which allows the biomass plant to operate at full power. The high winds many make it possible for the power plant to access a high amount of wind energy.

Hybrid renewable energy systems have gained a lot of popularity in recent years as they provide as assured power supply even in the most remote areas. The increase in oil prices and higher electricity rates has only fueled the demand for these systems.

What Is an Off-Grid Solar System And How It Works?

Off-grid solar systems are very popular across Gujarat and are very important in rural areas and other remote parts of Gujarat and India.  At ANP Solar, we have installed a number of off-grid solar systems in some of the most remote areas you will find in India.

We have been able to transform the lives of so many in India that have no access to the power grid by bringing solar power to them. Our team of Solar PV engineers and electrical engineers work hard to design the best off grid solar systems as per the requirements of our customers.

What are off grid solar systems, exactly?

You should understand that there are 3 types of solar systems – DC system, on grid solar systems and off grid solar systems.

DC systems are based on direct current; there is no DC to AC conversion here.

On grid systems consist of solar panels that are connected to a grid-tie inverter, which converts the direct current obtained from the panels to alternating current or AC. On grid systems are connected to the grid all the time.

If the load is produced in excess by the solar panels, it feeds back the excess power back to the grid. There are no batteries involved in on grid systems, so there is no way to store the excess power that is generated.

Now, let us understand what an off grid system does. An off grid system is a standalone solar PV system with batteries. It collects solar energy and converts the solar power into AC, which is then used to light up the house and run the appliances, and also to charge the batteries.

Off grid system make minimal use of the power grid. They are very effective at saving power and reducing your electricity bills. They consist of solar panels, inverter, solar charge controller and the AC load.

Here’s how they work – when sunlight falls on the solar panels, the panels generate DC electricity. This goes into the solar PCU or inverter. The inverter converts the DC into AC and runs the load on solar energy. Any excess solar energy that is produced is stored in the batteries, to be used later whenever there is a power shutdown.

If you have any questions related to the working of the solar PV system, don’t hesitate to contact us at ANP Solar.

That is why you should trust only a reputable company such as ANP Solar with the installation of your home solar system.

ANP Solar installs home solar systems across Gujarat and the rest of India. We have a specific focus on Gujarat as it is our home state and have a significant presence there in all major cities such as Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Mehsana and more. We also have a significant presence in rural Gujarat.

ANP Solar hands the entire process of the installation of the solar panel on rooftops of homes. Each solar installation project begins with the initial order, which is followed by the testing of the product by our team of quality analysts.

This is then followed by the commissioning of the solar equipment. We dispatch a team to help homeowners and business owners with their documentation, and we handle all the paperwork related to their subsidy application. The Gujarat government, as you are aware, provides all homeowners with very enticing subsidies and other incentives for installing solar PV systems on their rooftops.

Now, the question a lot of our clients ask is what size of ANP solar systems is right for most homes in Gujarat, especially in cities such as Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat and Mehsana?

The answer to that is that how much space you have on the roof of your house decides the size of the solar panel to be installed. Measure the roof or balcony area in your house first. Remember, the solar panel should face the south as much as possible, as this ensures that they get as much of the sunlight as possible throughout the day.

Generally, the solar panels installed in cities like Ahmedabad and Baroda in Gujarat, are of the standard 250Wp to 300Wp types. Wp stands for Watt Peak. These are the solar panel sizes that we recommend for an average home or apartment in any city in Gujarat.

If you have a large house or need the solar panel to be installed on top of a building or apartment complex, we recommend a medium to large installation which consists of multiple 74Wp or 100Wp panels.

Again, this is entirely dependent on the space available on your roof or balcony, how much electricity you use on a daily basis and the design of the solar panel.

At ANP Solar, we are able to estimate your solar power cost by taking a look at your electricity bills for the last few months.  This will give us an idea of the equipment you use in your house – such as whether you use air conditioners or not – and the power required.

We quickly analyze the approximate usage per room in your house and for each device when planning your solar installation. Contact us today so that we can arrange a free inspection of your house by one of our engineers.

At ANP Solar, we offer a range of warranties on all solar equipment installed by us. Generally the warranties on solar equipment vary, as they depend on the manufacturer.

ANP Solar is the leading installer of home solar systems in Gujarat and India. We are asked by many customers whether they need to change their meter after the solar installation.

The short answer to this is yes, you need to change the meter after the installation of the solar PV system if you don’t have a bi-directional energy meter installed already.

A solar power system requires a bi-directional energy meter which is capable of measuring and recording electricity flows in each direction. It tells you how much energy has been consumed from the grid versus how much excess energy has been exported back to the grid because of the solar system.

So, if you don’t have a bi-directional meter already, we will replace, reprogram and reconfigure your meter so that it is perfectly compatible with your solar system. We take care of everything related to the installation of the new meter.

To begin with, we take care of the documentation. We make sure that your paperwork is in order when applying for the solar connection and a subsidy from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency [GEDA] of the Gujarat government.  We also make sure that you get a subsidy from the central government, in case that is applicable to you.

We communicate with your energy distributor, whether it is Torrent Power or the Gujarat State Electricity Board and get an approval from them for the meter installation. We handle all the paperwork related to this process. Because of our excellent reputation with the various energy distributors in Gujarat, we are able to get an approval in quick time.

We do everything in-house and maintain a high standard of quality. We have a team of highly qualified engineers and trained technicians who make sure that everything related to the installation of the solar PV system, including the replacement of the old meter with a new one is done to perfection.

You are welcome to contact us any time for a free solar consultation. We will dispatch one of our engineers to your house who will run a quick inspection of your residence, such as the roof space available and try to get a sense of your energy requirements. We will then offer a customized quote that meets your agreement.

Our installation team takes over from that point and we install the solar PV system and change the meter on a day that is convenient to you. Contact us to know more.
